We connect most joyously with our humanity when we partake in larger cultural stories. Our surroundings hold the power to engage us with meaningful stories every day.
Practice
Studio dé Lor believes that the most compelling and resonant spaces stem from a process of contextual research, cultural study, and story-telling. Every project, no matter how large or small, has the potential to connect people with resounding narratives. We assemble these narratives by mining the unique lore and histories of locales, to find the generative kernel that will imbue a project with a distinct sense of place.
Beginning with a close client-relationship, careful listening, and thoughtful conceptual narrative building, Studio dé Lor utilizes a wealth of practical and creative experience to bring project design to well-executed completion with consideration and craft. A project's ability to leave a lasting impression hinges on how legibly its smallest details support its broadest ideals.
About
Studio De Lor is founded by Brent Kitchen, an architect and interior designer with nearly twenty years of industry experience. He is a registered architect in the state of New York, and received his degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia. He has long held the conviction that there is no one formula or signature style to act as panacea for all design challenges, but rather that resonant design begins with a sensitivity to the context and history of each particular place and owner.
Working in several architecture firms over thirteen years, Brent navigated the design, construction, and permitting of a number of high-profile, ground-up buildings, becoming fascinated with how rigorous attention to detail can create buildings that relate harmoniously to their contexts while conveying their own distinct stories.
Well versed in architectural design and construction, Brent pivoted to interior design in 2018, where he spent the following six years designing boutique hotels, residences, and restaurants as a director at an award-winning interior design and branding studio in New York City. A heavily conceptual, research-based, and humanistic approach to place-making honed his conviction that design can transcend the arbitrary and express our most purpose-driven and culturally curious sides.
